Your Role

The Energy West-Africa/MENA team (WA/MENA) is looking for an Investment Officer (IO) responsible for the sourcing, execution, and supervision of all debt-related energy investments in the West-Africa and MENA region and supported by a team of environmental, social, insurance, legal and compliance specialists.


We are looking for a team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex processes in a structured manner with a proven track record in project financing of energy projects in Africa and  the MENA region and trained as a banker with a good understanding of the DFI world.


The IO will report to the Manager Energy WA/MENA. This role will involve deal sourcing, structuring and documentation of new facilities and coverage of various countries and client portfolios on an ongoing basis:
•    Origination and execution of debt transactions that fit the Energy (EN) Department strategy.
•    Structuring and execution of transactions in collaboration with Environmental and Social Officers (ESOs) and other specialists as needed, under the direction of the Manager.
•    Building strong relationships with EN clients and prospects by understanding their business, the market and environment they operate in and the risks and challenges they face through regular visits and/or calls.
•    Taking the lead in negotiation/contracting processes of debt transactions together with the legal team.
•    Identifying, materializing, developing potential investments and their sponsors based on sector developments, prior expertise, reputation, financial capability, market opportunity and strategic fit.
•    Creating and providing input to business plans for the countries and clients under her/his responsibility. 
•    Coaching of Associates as required.

Our Offer

  • Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 95-110K (based on 40 hours), including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background.

  • Hybrid way of working (at least 3 days in the office). 

  • Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Team

The Energy West-Africa and MENA team comprises of 12 investment professionals (including this vacancy) and is responsible for the sourcing, execution, and supervision of all debt-related energy investments in the West Africa and MENA region. The team is supported by a team of environmental, social, insurance, legal and compliance specialists.

Your Background

  • Proven track record in deal structuring and execution of energy projects in Africa and MENA region and trained as a banker with a good understanding of the DFI world.
  • Master’s degree in Economic, Business Administration or comparable studies.
  • Over 6-8 years relevant project finance and corporate financing experience in energy markets.
  • Proven track-record in sourcing, structuring, designing and documenting finance products.
  • Client relationship management experience.
  • International working experience and availability to travel.

  • Outgoing personality with a commercial drive and sound business sense.
  • Team player and proactive, with an interest and ability to coach colleagues.
  • Professional proficiency in French is a must.
  • Able to motivate other colleagues and partners.
  • Strong networking, analytical and communication skills.
  • Excellent conversational and writing skills in English.
