Your Role

We are looking for an Lawyer with Insurance knowledge including Project Finance Insurance related requirements. To join the CLT-Legal team. The role offers a unique opportunity for a lawyer who is anxious to translate his/her legal insuracen knowledge into insurance risk advice. If offers to work closely with multiple internal stakeholders, the EN team, Legal transations team and other corpoate stakeholers and play an important role in claims disputes. Given the countries where FMO is active this offers an intersting work-field. Since the role is unique we allow for room to grow into this role.

3 aspects of the role:
1) Protect FMO as lender in EN projects by advising and monitoring the insurance package and cover of those projects
2) Be part of the CLT - Legal team and being the go to person for claims and insurance related legal issues
3) Coordinating FMO's range of corporate insurance policies. Being the liaison with FMO's broker.

More detailed:
Ad 1: Work close with EN dealteams / Liaise with Lenders insurance advisors and review their reports and advise the dealteam / Coordinate on the risks and on lender's required insurance policies for the Project / Work alongside transaction-legal team , technical and financial advisors / Monitor and administer client related policies / negotiate insurance coverage with project sponsors and their brokers / Portfolio management - advise on project related claim when issues occur to the protect FMO's credit position. / Monitor developments in the insurance market and advise the team accordingly.

Ad 2: Collaborate proactively with the internal teams to improve ways of working, manage risk, and support FMO's strategic objectives.

Ad 3: support FMO on corporate insurance matters, policy review, renewals, risk mitigation, creating awareness and communication for FMO organisation and employees.

  • The gross yearly salary ranges from EUR 85K–95K for a 40-hour work week, including holiday allowance. This depends on experience and background.

Your Team

The Corporate Legal, Tax and Insurance team in FMO plays a broad role covering matters related to Corporate Legal such as labour law, banking regulation, supplier contracting, Tax such as tax advisory on projects and compliance for (international) corporate income and wage taxes of FMO, and Insurance matters, such as D&O, travel and advisory to project insurance.

Your Background

  • Qualified lawyer with relevant post-qualification experience (min 3 years)
  • We would be interested mostly in someone with a background in:
    1. Preferably a broker company, (not relevant for interal vacancy)
    2. a law firm (Insurance disputes- infrastructure / energy), or last
    3. in-house role dealing with insurance disputes and project-related insurance
    4. who convincingly shows ambition to grow into such a role
  • Experience with broad oversight of what is relevant from an insurance perspective in (renewable energy) project finance.
  • Understanding of the insurance market in a project finance context, including lender requirements
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
  • Pro-active, team-player, solution-oriented and comfortable working across multiple teams and disciplines
  • Enjoy taking initiative to seek improvements where possible.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to act as a specialist advisor to any stakeholders
