Your Role

The Energy Latin America and Caribbean team comprises 12 investment professionals (including this vacancy) and is responsible for the sourcing, execution, and supervision of all debt-related energy investments in the  Latin America and Caribbean region. The team is responsible for a growing portfolio of around 30 clients and circa EUR 720 million exposure and is supported by a team of environmental, social, insurance, legal and compliance specialists.

 

This team is looking for an enthusiastic Associate. In this role, you will be primarily involved in the portfolio management of our growing loan portfolio, while providing selective support to the execution of new and repeat transactions. This role requires (strong) financial analytical skills, financial modelling skills, risk awareness, a general understanding of financial markets and economic trends, and good communication and writing skills.

 

Specific tasks include:

 

  • Analyzing operational and financial reporting and data of existing clients (e.g., financial performance, compliance with covenants, assessment of forecasts, etc.);
  • Writing reports and managing internal processes related to monitoring the performance of existing clients (annual reviews, change requests, waivers, restructurings etc.);
  • Preparing market and financial analyses of clients, sectors and countries, including the evaluation of project finance structures, key risk factors, debt service capacity and financial projections;
  • Supporting (Senior) Portfolio Officers in managing relationships with these clients on an operational working level.
  • Closely monitoring clients in the quarterly watchlist process;
  • Participating in client visits when required (requiring international travel);
  • Supporting the business development team in processing repeat transactions with existing clients.
  • Managing internal systems and the processing and filing of customer data, including KYC, ESG, Impact, financials, legal and insurance documentation.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues in a multidisciplinary deal team setting (e.g., Environmental & Social Officers, Corporate Governance Officers, Know Your Customer Administrators, etc.).
  • Contributing to departmental projects as requested.

Our Offer

For this position we offer you:

  • Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 55-65K (based on 40 hours/ week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background .

  • Working hours: 40 hours per week 

  • Pension scheme, partly paid by FMO.

  • 31 holidays 

  • Hybrid way of working (50/50). 

  • Working remotely abroad for maximum 60 days in a rolling period of 12 months.

Your Background

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in financial analysis, portfolio analysis, project finance, or corporate finance, preferably in the energy infrastructure sector.
  • Proven analytical, risk assessment and financial modelling skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Native-level or fluent Spanish communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Working experience in an international environment and/or emerging markets, especially Latin America, is a plus.
